re-jenn-eration
"yet this i call to mind and therefore i have hope:
because of the lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

goodbye xanga!

hello to my readers!

it's been three years now since i moved to seattle and started this blog :)  that was the theme back then... "re-jenn-eration" (get it, a new place and everything?  it's almost like growing back a tail or something like a salamander might :))

anyways...  i think it's time to move on!  i've been experimenting with windows live spaces and i like it so far :)  (i originally wrote "really like it.." but i had to modify that.  it's not *perfect* but i'm willing to give it a chance!  haha go microsoft! :))  if you'd like to continue following my adventures: jennhw.spaces.live.com is where it's at!

thanks to each of you for reading, and thanks to xanga for hosting all these posts!
take care and god bless!

p.s. in the spirit of autumn (my favorite season!) i had to post one last honorary pumpkin :)
it's... it's... a wire pumpkin!!

me and lis, overlooking the restaurant
lisa and i had dinner last night at flying fish in downtown seattle :)  she's in town for a conference on parallel architecture and compilation theory (yup, that is *serious* computer stuff!) and luckily, we were able to meet up after she was done with her big paper and presentation (congrats!).  it's so crazy to think that i've been friends with my high school friends for *twelve years* now.  that's nutty!  and i must be getting really old too!  but annnnyyyways, back to flying fish...  i've been meaning to try this place for.. seriously a very very long time, so it was really cool to finally go AND to have it live up to the hype too :)  i really liked our food...  we shared this "thai crab cake" appetizer and it was perhaps one of the best crab cakes i've ever had (and i really do like to try crab cakes pretty often too!)

in other, completely unrelated news...  i found this today!

so as you may know, i don't own a macbook myself.  (for some *obvious* reasons... ha ha... but in case you care to know, it's not because of where i work, but mostly because i find the mac os very very confusing to use!)  but!  if i did... i would perhaps consider these laptop covers in the shape of cartoon animals!  haha i would have to go with the non-bunny variety tho, otherwise, how would i ever even see my screen?  not entirely sure if it's ... practical (ha ha is that even a reasonable question to be asking?) but i guess since my macbook is only hypothetical, it doesn't really matter :)  anyways, it definitely gets props for being a cute idea!

for those of you that are interested in reading more, they aren't yet commercially available, but they debuted at the 2006 apple expo in paris!

the last kiss comes out this friday!  it sort of has a garden-state-like vibe to it (maybe it's just the presence of zach braff?!) but that's toootally cool with me bc i loved garden state :)

this picture is cool too... did you know that i love treehouses?  haha it was one of the primary reasons i *reeally* liked the swiss family robinson story when i was younger (they made the coooolest treehouse ever! :)).  anyways, september 15th.... save the date!

our small group volunteering at providence regina house  a very
our small group (missing jeff tho, since he had to leave a little early), after volunteering at providence regina house in south park this past saturday (haha yes, this area of seattle is reeally called south park :)  and it definitely pre-dates the south park of kenny and carmen and... i forget the other names!  but it still would have been funny if we had had a kenny who could pretend to die sometime during the "episode" :)  it's been a long time since i've watched south park, so i don't know if they stilll do that... otherwise, maybe that comment just seems really macabre?!)  anyways....  even tho i woke up at 8am for the second consecutive saturday in a row and i got a little bit of allergic wheeziness (maybe from the dust?), i'm reeeally really glad that we went!  (thanks to cathy.. and to city year.. for the pointer to the organization!)  i spent the morning with the other girls working in the clothing bank -- maybe it was a litttttle bit extra-rewarding because it was a "no-limit" day, so we got to see the happy faces of people who were able to take all the items that they liked (rather than the usual 2-item-per-member-of-your-family limit).

to those from post-psalt who are going in the next two weekends, i hope you have a good time!  i'd encourage you to bring clothes to donate too -- especially the guys, there seems to be a noticeable shortage of guys' clothing available at the clothing bank :)

*edit*
and late breaking news!  apparently there's a new store by the person behind j.crew?? :)  it's called madewell, but there are only two locations right now tho... century city (the pictures here look really nice, but julie, will you check it out when you return to la? :)) and texas.

today was my first day back at work!  it was really hard to motivate myself to come into the office this morning -- i guess being on vacation for 3 weeks can do that to a person :)

anyways, it was a pretty good day tho...  i came in to an office decorated with a "passage of time" theme (in my team, we have this tradition of playing pranks on people to welcome them back from vacation :)  i think the theme was suggesting that i'd been out of the office for a long time...  i'm not sure tho, it's just a guess!).  there were cobwebs and spiders (fake ones of course!) and fall leaves everywhere... and he (i think jeff had been the primary implementer of this plan) had even used a boot disk to make my computer seem to be running windows 3.1!  the cleverest part was that not only was there a boot disk in my floppy drive, there was ALSO one in my cd-rom drive... so even after i removed the boot disk, my machine was STILL loading windows 3.1!  i was seriously quite tricked and confused... :)

and then this afternoon, my team went bowling!  i almost didn't go since i was pretty tired, but i'm glad that i did :)  i think it's good for me to stay up the whole day anyways...  even if being at work all day *does* feel physically quite similar to the experience of pulling an all-nighter or something!  the first game was the best one for my lane (4 people) overall.. we bowled a collective 444!  if you're familiar with chinese tho, you'll know the number 4 is pretty unlucky, so we decided to strive for a collective 888!  yup, we're quite ambitious...  but the reality was we never even broke 400 collectively again :)  haha but the second game.. seriously, by the end, i was so tired that i felt like i was only one step away from crawling to the lane each time i had to bowl!  and then.. it was 4:45, and we only had 15 more minutes for our third game, so we made it a "speed bowling" event.  the adrenaline really kicked in for me then i think.... and i actually ended up with one of my highest bowling scores in a really long time (i think maybe ever since we used to bowl on an almost-weekly basis in college that one semester :)) ... 132!  *gasp*  i know!  i'm so surprised myself too!

now... i really want to head home :)  but first, i need to install office 2007 beta onto my computer to continue being able to receive my work email!  i'm actually quite excited... i've heard a lot about the new office ui and i'd looking forward to learning/using it for myself :)

but yes, just wanted to say "hi!" now that i'm back in the states again :)  it seems like i've been gone a long time, yet in other ways, it seems like not that long too. (haha is that a meaningless statement?  i don't mean for it to be!)  i'll post more about the trip later on, but some more immediate tidbits:  while i was gone, i received a boatload of mail including 3 wedding invitations!  wow mega-congratulations to everyone :) :)  i feel like i ate a loot on the trip, but i think i only gained 2lbs (haha or 1kg to use the asian measurement :)).  must have been all that walking!  and i can't believe you guys are already moved/almost moving... but best of luck and god bless to cathy and quincy as they move on to nyc and dc!

all my pictures are online too:
liu-kwei (week one of the mission trip)
yun-lin (week two of the mission trip)
taipei (3 days)
hong kong (6 days)

hope you guys are doing well and i will talk to you soon! :)
